EMI Has rereleased this classic recording of Carmina Burana, and thank Heaven! No other performance – and there are so many excellent ones – quite captures the spirit of this magnificent work so truly. Fruehbeck de Burgos keeps magisterial control over the enormous forces, the choir of boys is excellent, and the soloists are second to none.

It's not easy following up a creatively and commercially successful debut album, but Florida-based Southern rockers the Outlaws did just fine with their sophomore effort, 1976's Lady in Waiting, the follow-up to their 1975 self-titled, gold-selling release.

Released in 1981, this little gem was produced by Tom Petty and features the Heartbreakers as backing band of choice. The result is an album that updates Shannon's sound without putting him through any embarrassing, then-current commercial ploys (to Shannon's eternal credit, he looks younger on the cover than he did when he had "Runaway" out).

Although most people are very familiar with Bob Marley's Island Records years and his attendant international superstardom, the truth is that Marley's long pre-Island career releasing singles with the Wailers on small Jamaican labels may well be ultimately more fascinating.

Freight Train Heart became a huge hit for Jimmy Barnes, and with good reason. It followed on directly from the blue-collar rock of Bodyswerve and For the Working Class Man, yet managed to create its own identity. While it may have lacked complete originality ("Driving Wheels" is a simple update of "Working Class Man"), Barnes managed to make this set of songs an instant classic, thanks to the strength of singles like "Waitin' for the Heartache."

Incredibly, the quality of the Buddha Bar series is holding steady, which is good given that the quality level is about as good as it gets. I have all six Buddha Bar CDs (as well as a growing collection of other "chill out" CDs). On most of the Buddha Bar CD collections, I tend to favor the CD with with the uptempo beats.

Recorded in 1967 after the first flush of back-to-back successes with "Respect" and "I Never Loved a Man," this captures Aretha Franklin in peak form. Lady Soul provides her own piano accompaniment on the majority of tracks here, and the core band is the same one that provided the fire on her previous album.

Never Too Late is best remembered today as drummer John Coghlan's final album with the band he'd served since the early '60s. The bulk of the set, however, was actually cut during the same sessions that produced the previous year's Just Supposin', although it's a struggle to say which of the two came out with the better songs. Neither is what one would describe as a classic Quo disc, but nor are they as disposable as some of the band's later releases.

The success story of Metalium continues with their highly awaited seventh studio release Incubus-Chapter Seven reaching a new level in both the lyrical conception story of the Metalian as well as the musical development of the band. After several European tours, a tour of Japan and several festival appearances along with four successful albums behind them, the four piece again didn't care about trends of the scene, but still were able to make an impressive step ahead.

Yes' 35th Anniversary DVD, Songs from Tsongas, is a great collection of a two live sets - One electric and the other acoustic. The latter is by far the most exciting, energizing, and its what makes this 2DVD live show worth a purchase. In addition to some great renditions, there's some great conversation between tracks by Jon Anderson.
